Third Annual Wissahickon Trail Classic

The 2008 Wissahickon Trail Classic 10K run and 5K walk will be held on Saturday, June 7, 2008 in the majestic Wissahickon Valley in Fairmount Park. The race benefits the Wissahickon Restoration Volunteers, who work to restore the natural lands and sustainable use of the Wissahickon Valley.

Last year, over 500 runners and walking fanatics participated in the highly successful 10K Run (5K Walk). This was a huge increase from the 300 runners and walkers who participated in the First Wissahickon Trail Classic.

The race starts at 10:00 AM at the northern end of Forbidden Drive (at Northwestern Avenue). Runners can race a challenging off-road course passing numerous landmarks, such as the historic covered red bridge and the Lenape Indian Statue. Walkers can walk the 5K scenic route (Forbidden Drive) along the Wissahickon Creek. Plenty of volunteers will be on hand to assist. Children and pets (on leashes) are welcomed to take part in the fun.

Additional details, specific directions and the registration form are available online at www.wissahickontrailclassic.org. If you’re not inclined to run or walk, you can also take part in this exciting event as either a volunteer or sponsor.
